A2ndvoice Founder meets Mayor of Wandsworth

A2ndvoice celebrated 2 years on Sunday 18th May for another rewarding year.

On Monday 19th May, Mayor – Cllr Angela Graham invited Venessa Bobb Founder of A2ndvoice for afternoon tea that was held in the Mayor’s Parlour at Wandsworth Town Hall,

Arriving early to her surprise, she was to have a one to one meeting with the Mayor.

Venessa had met Mayor Graham in June 2013 at the BATCA Community Day and Street Party that was held on Broadwater Road, Tooting who spoke to her about the services that A2ndvoice provide for the local community.

The Mayor was inspired by Venessa’s commitment and contributions for her voluntary work to the Wandsworth locals, supporting individuals and families seeking for help and advice, despite her going through her own challenges raising her son who also has Autism and ADHD.

She was awarded the Special Wandsworth Roll of Honour pin and a donation to the charity to continue her voluntary work.

Venessa said, “I was overwhelmed and shocked, when I found out that I was on my own. I didn’t come with anyone as I assumed it was a private invitation for selected individuals that were associated with voluntary or charitable work. I used my mobile phone to take the photo as I knew that I may not get a chance again”.

A2ndvoice is a non-for-profit organisation connecting with individuals and families living, caring and working for those on the Autistic Spectrum and other related conditions. We run a Drop Inn Coffee Mornings every Tuesday Morning at Tooting United Reformed Church, no appointment is needed and workshops that cater for day-to-day living from puberty, relationships, obsessions, anxiety, Females on the spectrum, BME Community Workshops and Faith Groups.

There is a need not just for parents and carers raising an individual on the autistic spectrum, but society on a whole in understanding how complex Autism and Aspergers is, ignoring the condition will not go away. In the long run, it will just add more challenges to the individual in later life.

“Without the support of my partner Delroy Marshall, Pastor & Sister Swaby, God Is Gracious Ministries, Special Help for Special Needs, Sensory Activation Solutions, Wandsworth Family Information Services (FIS),  Allsorts Club, National Association of Black Supplementary Schools (NABSS), Liz Biba Balogun - Graphics Designer, Liesje Dusauzay - Co-founder of Proud Parents of Autistic Children, Lucy Rodgers and Staff - Eagle House, School and Alan Sharps who have been with A2ndvoice from the start.

But can’t forget Rachel Nixon – Winner of “#MyWandsworth Photo Contest 2014” some how mentioned my name to Mayor Graham on the day of her winning the competition that stuck in the Mayor’s mind. I met Rachel over 5 years ago, so she knows how far I have come.”

And Rev. Helen Matthews from Tooting United Reformed Church in making a difference in promoting and supporting A2ndvoice.

Thank you to everyone who has supported A2ndvoice, a celebration is in order.
